Environmental & Social Responsibility - Sustainability

1457922-bos-met-water.jpgSustainability is a collective term to designate all issues that encapsulate the environmental and social concerns of a business in today’s society. The 1987 “World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) Report” (The Brundtland Report) defined sustainable development as the inter-generational equity of our society. In an accelerated manner, firms are recognizing that in order to gain a competitive advantage, it is of vital importance to acknowledge and profess the societal need for corporate openness.

The Brundtland Report is marked as the beginning of a widely-held realization that economic progression is accomplished by the acceptance of the corporate industries that environmental protection and social stewardship are mutually inclusive values that cannot be overlooked in determining a firm’s critical success factors. Therefore, organizations desire to evidence their recognition of environmental and social responsibilities.

“Nature that framed us of four elements, warring within our breasts for regiment, doth teach us all to have aspiring minds”

Niccolò Machiavelli (03/05/1469 – 21/06/1527), Italian political philosopher and historian
